Welcome to A Brief History of Peer Support: A Canadian Context! Through examination of key events, movements, and advocacy efforts in the history of the mental health care system, learners will gain a deeper understanding of how peer support has evolved as a vital part of today’s mental health and addictions sector.

Throughout the course, learners will be guided through the following learning objectives:

-Identify key events in the history of mental healthcare in Canada
-Understand how these events contributed to a role for peer support in healthcare
-Recognize the movements, advocacy, and key events that set the stage for peer support
-Understand the vital role peer support plays today in Ontario’s healthcare system

This course is intended for anyone who would like to learn more about the origins of peer support as well as the importance of meaningful inclusion of those with lived and living experiences in their care as a human right.
